Why is there a customer fee?
Stripe charges 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction to process card payments. This fee is passed directly to the customer and covers payment processing only. CarPot keeps none of it.
Who handles sales tax?
Mechanics handle their own tax. CarPot does not calculate or collect it on their behalf.
What happens if I dispute a charge?
CarPot reviews the dispute internally and determines the refund amount on a case-by-case basis.
When do I get paid after a service is completed?
Payouts are processed 5 days after a service is marked complete. CarPot holds the payment in escrow during this period.
Why is my first payout delayed?
Stripe applies a 7-day hold on the first payout for all new accounts. This happens once only. All subsequent payouts follow the normal 5-day schedule.
How is the 5% mechanic fee calculated?
The 5% fee is applied to the full subtotal including labor and parts. This is CarPot's platform fee and supports operations, customer support, and ongoing development.
Are there any subscription fees?
No. CarPot is free to join for both customers and mechanics with no monthly or subscription fees.
How much does a mobile mechanic cost?
It depends on the job, the parts, and your area, which is why CarPot doesn't show estimates, only real quotes. Post your car problem and nearby mechanics respond with upfront, all-in prices you can compare before you book.
What is a typical mobile mechanic hourly rate?
Most mechanics on CarPot quote a flat, all-in price per job rather than an hourly rate, so there's no clock running while they work. And because mobile pros don't carry garage overhead, their quotes are often lower than shop rates for the same work.
What is the average car repair cost?
Averages can be misleading. The same repair can vary by hundreds of dollars depending on your vehicle, parts, and location. Instead of relying on an average, CarPot shows you exact quotes from local pros for your specific car and problem.
How do I get an oil change cost estimate?
Post an oil change request on CarPot with your vehicle details, and nearby mechanics send upfront quotes that include oil type, filter, and labor. Compare them side by side and pick the one that fits.
How do I get a brake repair cost estimate?
Describe the symptoms (squealing, grinding, a soft pedal) or request a brake inspection on CarPot. Local mechanics reply with itemized quotes covering pads, rotors, and labor: real prices for your car, not a generic estimate.
